New island, new dive shop, new dive sites, new instructors, new accommodation! After two weeks placid Bunaken island, Nusa Lembongan seems to me a bustling place with lots of dive operations and boats, many restaurants, cafés and bars and tourists from all over the world. My family has returned to Germany and I’m continuing with the second half of my Dive Master Internship.
The first dives are fast drift dives gliding over beautiful coral on the North Coast of Nusa Penida – good buoyancy control required! – the next day, I can spot my first Manta at Manta Bay. But it’s not for fun dives that I’m here. Rescue skills need to be refreshed and practiced, a dive map of a specific dive site wants to be produced, I assist my first DSD (Discover Scuba Diving) course and both Josh and Magnus do me the favor of doing a great job on their first open water experience!
More skill practice in the pool in the afternoon with the lovely instructors Nina and Di who are so professional and patient with me. But, of course, the day came where my energy level dropped rapidly and I needed a full day of rest and sleep to recover. Step by step, I have the feeling that my efforts are bearing first fruits – changing the location added so much more experience to learn from and I feel ready to take on more responsibility above and under water. I am now a Dive Master!
Three things remain to be said: I definitely fell in love with the view of mighty Gunung Agung at sunrise, I saw my first mola mola and – next week I’m going to start the next step of my dive career with the PADI Instructor course!
