This week our guests were in the mood to mix the muck diving with something different so off we went on a day trip to Bangka!

Bangka is an Island slightly further North of our own Lembeh. Its topography consists of steep walls, sloping reefs and patches of sea grass. These combinations means that lucky divers can have encounters with Manta Rays and even Dugongs! Unfortunately we weren’t lucky enough this time round to see these magnificent beasts but that just means we will have to return another time!

Everyone was up bright and early for breakfast and once we were all fed and watered the boat set out along the straight with our destination in the far distance. We were fortunate that the sun was shining and the seas were calm, meaning the journey across was only an hour and a half and everyone was in high spirits.

Our first dive site of Sahaung greeted us with beautiful blue water, flowering corals and a gentle current. Pygmy seahorses were spotted by our eagle eyed guides, as well as frogfish, big schools of snapper and even a white tip reef shark found lurking in a cave.

Surface intervals were spent with a tea or coffee, biscuits, fruit and some lunch, in the sandy bays of Bangka watching bait balls trying in vain to escape whatever predator was after them.

Tanjung Husi and Batu Mandi were our other dive sites and once again did not disappoint. A family of cuttlefish, some octopus and a squad of squid rounded of the cephlapod check list and the usual congregation of nudis, shrimps and crabs kept our guides muck diving eyes in check.

Journeying back to the resort with the sun setting on our backs there was a satisfied glow on all the divers faces after a day well spent.
