After a week diving around Lembongan is always extremely difficult to choose an animal to talk about; there are so many! From the tiny ones to the big fellas. But having this picture from our friend Walter, and because this week there have been a lot of sightings, decided that we should mention the most amazing animal on Earth: the Peacock Mantis Shrimp.
The title can look exaggerated, or just an easy way to draw people’s attention to the post, but how would you call an animal with that amazing colors, that peacock tail, the best eyes…yes, on Earth! That can turn 360º and can see a lot more colors that, we, human, can… Imagine seeing the Lembongan and Penida’s coral reefs with all that rainbow tonalities, through the eyes of one of this sneaky guys… Would be too much!! And what about their strength? Their punch is so strong and fast, that create shockwaves that hit the preys a second time; looks like by the time you blink, the Mantis Shrimp could hit you, 50 times… And I once read in a Diving Magazine, that If we throw a basketball with, proportionally, the same force, we would get it out of orbit! Yep, I told you, amazing! (although in this article I refer to the Peacock Mantis Shrimp, the most beautiful one, there are also other kinds of Mantis, may be less colorful but with the same amazing features).
Apart from this great creature, our divers have enjoyed the presence of dozens of Manta Rays in a single dive, turtles, big schools of fish and Walter, our official photographer this week (thanks again for that Walter!!!!) got pics of 8 different nudibranchs in a single dive at Crystal Bay. One of them, the Strawberry Nudibranch! But don’t mention it to Maggie, that after 2 weeks with us, has seen lots of different nudis, but not that one yet 🙂 Walter, an old friend, came with his wife, Dorianne, that couldn’t dive because is pregnant (Congratulations again!!!) but did a lot of yoga and relaxing by the pool; and also with their friends Sergio and Graciela.
This last day we have also been busy with the end of the Instructor Development Course being taught in our resort by our Course Director Marie. The results of the Instructor Exam for our candidates Rikke, Yury, Thomas, Beate, Kyla, and Andrew? All passed, as always, keeping that passing rate still at 100%. Well done!! Some of the candidates had a few dives after the exam (on the MSDT preparation, or for fun diving), to relax and enjoy our waters. In fact, one of them, Beate, is spending 2 more weeks here with her husband, Michael.
We had also Floris diving with us for a few days, after heading to our Resort in Amed for some serious muck diving. And don’t forget about the other drivers that were part of our Two Fish family for a day, divers that came with us for Mantas either at Manta Point or Manta Bay, but never expected that amount in a single dive 🙂 Thanks, Will, Edgar, Chen, and Lee! And also, Chris and Florianne, that could enjoy the mantas at Manta Bay!
Walter G Schmit, encara treient suc de les teves fotos 🙂
