Amazing hairy shrimp in Bunaken and baby cuttlefish in Lembeh

Welcome to our weekly round-up #14, April/May 2014. This is the week of some great macro life in Bunaken with a picture of amazing hairy shrimp – thanks Vanessa and Marco for the photo!

In Lembeh we’ve seen quite a few TINY Flamboyant Cuttlefish which must mean that some of the eggs that we’ve been seeing on several sites have hatched. And in Lembongan we’ve had lots of Manta’s but also an off-seson Mola came to say hi.

In the TEC Corner, we’ve had another week of full-on sidemount diving with Gerard coming back from his 100m dive with us in December to take on the side-tanks, and Trine our DM Intern trying them out on her Advanced Nitrox course.

In the Pro Corner, Trine is in her last week with us & Lisa finishes her DM course and says goodbye. For the Instructor, we have already 2 candidates confirmed for the July IDC so only 2 spaces left!

This week in Lembeh

THIS WEEK IN LEMBEH……we’ve seen quite a few TINY Flamboyant Cuttlefish which must mean that some of the eggs that we’ve been seeing on several sites have hatched! We’ve been seeing plenty of adults in the past weeks but it’s a real treat to see the freshly hatched ones too!

This week in Bunaken

THIS WEEK IN BUNAKEN……a pod of Pilot whales came to hang out with the dive boat, with some whales passing under the boat giving the divers a great view. A dugong also popped his head up to take a look around, but didn’t stay. These experiences combined with sunny weather and calm seas have made for a very enjoyable week.

The under water life has also not let us down! Thanks to Vanessa and Marco for the photo of this amazing hairy shrimp. We are not entirely sure the exact type of shrimp. Can anyone help with this?

We have also seen Painted Frog fish, Ornate Ghost Pipe fish, Pontohi Pygmy Seahorses, Orangutan, Spider & Candy Crabs, Pink Squat Lobsters, Anemone, Hairy & Boxer Shrimps. Electric Clams, Whit Mouthed Morays, Blue Spotted Rays, Spotted Garden Eels and Leaf Scorpion fish.

On the bigger side we have seem Eagle rays, Dog Tooth Tuna, Schools of Bat fish & Big Eyed Travally, Barracudas, Napoleon Wrasse and Turtles.

Lisa has now finished her Divemaster course and we thank her all her hard work and the great German intro briefings. Good Luck!

Trine is also getting close to finishing and is now working on broadening her experience with some specialties and TEC courses.

This week in Lembongan

THIS WEEK IN LEMBONGAN…What to say! It’s been amazing again. Mantas were in both Manta sites and in a good number. The visibility was good and temperature 30 degrees. MOLA MOLA came to say Hi to our French group. Then Mantis, Shrimp, Swimmer crabs, tones of Nudibranch, Ribbon Eel, Bamboo Shark, Scorpion Fish, Lion Fish, Octopus…

Congratulation to Benoit and Caroline who did a Discover Scuba Diving with the Mantas and Lydie, Margot and Fabrice who are now Open Water Diver certified, Moa who pased his Advanced course and thanks to all the lovely people who came to join us for so many good time! Tec Corner

THIS WEEK IN TEC…. Clips, D-rings, harnesses, long hoses, and riggings. You guessed it – we’ve had another week of full-on sidemount diving! All the new equipment might seem really strange at first, but after a good morning of playing around with it in the equipment workshop, you’ll find it’s a lot of fun:)

Gerard, our famous 100 meter diver from New Year’s Eve, is back with us once again, but this time with his tanks on the side. He’s doing his TDI Sidemount course with instructor Hiro. Tagging along for more sidemount practice is Two Fish instructor Steph who is breaking in the new Dive Rite LT sidemount harness and regulators.

Meanwhile, our soon to be divemaster Trine signed up for her TDI Advanced Nitrox course so she can really maximise her no stop times and add lots more conservatism to her dive plans. We’re ready for lots of fun with Trine.

Pro Corner

Divemaster Interns

Lisa is in her last week of her 6-week internship and has taken the last of her specialities, the PADI Equipment Speciality Courses. She also decided to add a TEC course and completed the TDI Advanced Nitrox course, first TEC-toe in the water for her!

We also said goodbye to Lisa who finished her DM course with style at a great snorkel-text party. Here she is with Instructors Hiro, Sandy and Dion, but she also got to spend some time with Instructors Tina and Dani. To complete her DM she conducted a snorkel-test whilst demontating the BCD remove replace scuba unit at the suface at the Two Fish Cafe!! Then she carried on with a party with all the guests and staff, Great Funnnnnnn!!Congrats Lisa and hope to see you again!!
