Angel’s Window is a favourite dive site of many, due to its topography and variety of marine life that can be seen. Angel’s Window is located at the northern end of the strait and provides ample time to relax and get comfortable during the journey out to it.

Upon descending, you are greeted by a pinnacle rising out of the sand, covered in corals and reef fish. You make your way along and down the drop off to 30m and it is here where the first hunt begins, looking in the sea fans for pygmy seahorse, primarily Denise. Hopefully after spotting this shy creature you can make your way through the swim through or the “window” keeping your eye out for Bargibanti Pygmys in the sea fan and Clown Frogfish in the nooks and crannies.

The pinnacle gives way to sloping white sand where Bargibanti Pygmy Seahorses, Ornate Ghost Pipefish, Robust Ghost Pipefish and a variety of shrimps and crabs are commonly found. A very special guest appearance of the Pontohi Pygmy Seahorse has also been known to occur.

It is very important to remember just how sensitive Pygmy Seahorses can be to your strobe lights. If you have a red light on your torch to use as a focus light then that not only helps your photography but it is also better for the animals health. We ask that you are considerate towards these tiny adorable creatures and that you limit the amount of pictures you take.

It is common practice to take 5 shots and then move on. Please make sure you do not touch the sea fan that the pygmy lives on. Pygmy seahorses will live on one specific fan their entire lives so it is imperative that we make sure we leave it in the same condition we arrived at it!

Due to its location there can often by schools of pelagic fish such as Trevally as well as bait fish to accompany the muck diving. Passing Eagle Rays and Barracuda would not be out of place either.

This dive site can really be optimised through the use of Nitrox so make sure to book this in advance! And if you’re not a Nitrox diver then this would be the perfect time to complete your PADI Enriched Air course with our resident PADI Instructor!
