The bamboo sharks are a pretty common sighting around Nusa Penida, next to Nusa Lembongan, where we are based. We have some resident ones in the Manta sites… Probably they also love to see the big flappy things gently swimming around; I don’t blame them, I would also move there If I was a “fish”. The bamboo sharks at Nusa Penida are also relaxed and chilled during the day; slowly swimming or just resting in an overhang or just in a cozy hole in the reef.

The bamboo sharks around here are the Brownbanded species, also know as Grey Carpetshark. A really beautiful species, that on the Red List of the Threatened Species are considered: Near Threatened.. Yes, another shark species that is affected by the human’s activities, with their population numbers decreasing.

Apart from the Bamboo Sharks, this last days our divers have also enjoyed the Manta Rays, Sunfish, Eagle Rays, Turtles…

This week started slowly, after the absolute shut down for the Day of Silence, but got busy and a lot of fun and interesting people has been joining us: Some of them taking courses, like Rosa that has become Emergency First Responder and Rescue Diver (and now is in Bunaken becoming a Dive professional), Orin did the Advanced Course with Instructor Dani, and Lorenzo with Anna. Simone has kept working hard on her Divemaster Course, and Ashley, apart from working hard on her Divemaster Course, have been working on some Specialities, like the Shark Conservation, the Lembongan Manta Awareness and the Underwater Naturalist (with Michael as Instructor, on his Internship to get experience Instructing). And we also have had fun divers: Catalina from Switzerland, Sebastien from Quebec, JT from Singapore, Marcel, also from Switzerland, and David and Franki from Australia.
