This week in Amed….we came across many Banded Coral Shrimps as we did a few interesting muck dives in between Tulamben and Amed in search of macro creatures. Thanks to Keith, the photographer behind the camera, who also gave us many of his other pictures.
Very common around the Amed area, the omnivorous Banded Coral Shrimp has some regeneration super-powers -if it happens to lose an arm or a claw, it will grow back up next time they molt! A pretty handy feature.
Many species such as the triggerfish or eels will feed on the Banded Coral Shrimp, which is why you’ll find them mostly hiding in caves and on the bottom of overhangs, where, when given the opportunity, will actively clean up other fish from parasites.
A nice little fella that we also found a lot during a Night dive on the House Reef later this week with our PADI Divemaster trainees, Nathan and Sam, who just finished their Sidemount course and wanted to practice live in the bay.
