Banded Sea Snakes
The yellow lipped banded sea snakes are often seen in the waters around Indonesia, including the Gili Islands and our island of Gili Air. This interesting species of snake is well known for its highly toxic venom, however, humans are rarely bitten, due to their extremely docile nature and poor eye sight, and documented cases have typically occurred by fishermen when trying to remove a snake accidentally caught in fishing nets. The tips of their tails are shaped like a paddle to aid in swimming, but they are semi-aquatic, meaning that you may also encounter them on land where banded sea snakes go to digest the food they have hunted underwater as well as for mating purposes and laying their eggs. Adult banded sea snakes may spend up to half their time on land, so you are lucky when you see one underwater!

Sara, Komang, Jenny and Jen. Congratulations Sara!
This week at Two Fish Divers Gili Air we were joined by James and Zola for their PADI Open Water Course with instructor Komang! A lot of hard work in the classroom, pool and ocean resulted in two very happy newly certified divers! They even decided to join us for some fun diving following the course… I think they are hooked!
Mr. Toshio also joined us from Japan for some fun diving with guide Jen and Divemaster Intern Sara before she moves on to Bali. He enjoyed three fabulous days of warm water diving around the Gili Islands. He is a familiar face to the Two Fish team and we are excited for his next visit!

Jen, Toshio-san and Sara diving Gili Air this week
We were sad to say goodbye to Sara this week after enjoying her smile around the dive centre during her Divemaster Internship program, but we were very happy to congratulate her on becoming a PADI Pro! Sara will take her divemaster certification back to California and Hawaii where she hopes to work in marine conservation and biology.
We can hardly believe that it is almost the end of 2019! As more travellers make their way to the Gili Islands for the end of the year, we look forward to more days of diving ahead!
If you’d like to join us for dun diving, PADI COurses or to become a PADI Divemaster in Gili, fill in the form below and we will get right back to you!
