I can’t believe it has been 10 days since I arrived in Northern Sulawesi! Echo, one of the drivers from Two fish, welcomed me with a big smile on his face at the airport. He brought me to the harbor, where I jumped on a speedboat to Bunaken.
Since then, I almost drowned, freaked out completely, got severely sunburned and have collected scratches all over the place from handling the equipment. While I underestimated how hard this training would be –I am not just sleeping here in the evening, I’m going into a coma at 9pm. I am having so much fun every day, learning new skills, with Dom, Ina and Dion, my PADI instructor course here in Bunaken. They are really putting all their effort in preparing me to become a professional diver. There are 4 other people taking their Divemaster Training at the same time as me, and it is really nice to be able to share these experiences and maybe also the frustrations ;).
A couple of highlights of the last 10 days? I completed my 100th dive, went down to 40 meters, saw 5 pontohi pygmy seahorses and my very first eagle ray, went on a night dive with a fluorescent lamp, obtained my Search & Recovery specialty, enjoyed the local wine with lots of guitar music and got baptized by the locals as ‘sayang’, meaning as much as sweetheart in Bahasa Indonesia.
Time for a nap now, write to you later!
Beware of speedboat drivers in Bunaken. That’s the word among Indonesians who cherish their daughters!
