Many people ask us at Two Fish what is the best time of the year to visit Nusa Lembongan. As locals who live here there is no clear answer to this, because it depends on what you are looking for. Do you want to have sunshine all day long? Do you want to avoid the crowds? Or do you want to see mola molas or mantas?
Every season on Lembongan has its particular charm and only you can decide what’s suits you best. Hopefully, this overview will help you to choose when to visit our special island.
Best time for the sun
Normally the climate of Nusa Lembongan is pretty similar to mainland Bali, only a few kilometers away from Nusa Lembongan. In general Lembongan is noticeably drier and has less rain than in mountainous Bali. Particularly in the period of May to September. This is also the season when the most people are coming to visit our beautiful tropical island.
People love the sunshine, they love the blue sky and don’t want to worry about the weather. It is the school summer break in Europe and also many Australians love to come to Bali and Lembongan around this time of the year. Many hotels and resorts are fully booked and it is the busiest time of the year, so plan ahead.
How to avoid the rain
If there is a time to avoid, it would be the height of the rainy season in January and February. It might rain from time to time, but the rainy season is not the same as the typical monsoon season in Thailand or other countries in Asia. Normally there is a strong rainfall for a few hours each day and after this the sun is coming out. It rarely happens that it is raining the entire day or for weeks like in other countries.
How to avoid the crowds
If you like a quite beach, less crowded restaurants and you don’t care about some rain, the months from November to March are definitely the best time for you! Many resorts and dive schools like Two Fish Divers have special discounts for guests and divers during this time, so can it can also be easier on your budget.
best time for Mola mola
Maybe you are coming to Lembongan to see the mola mola, the famous sunfish? Well, anytime of year you will need a little luck to see these gentle giants. The best chances to see the sunfish is normally from June to October. But you never know! Some of our guests were lucky enough to see the sunfish beginning of January. But even if you don’t see the elusive molas don’t despair, if you come diving with us there is a great chance to see some mantas! Luckily, they are not so shy and are around all year long.
