Diving in Lembeh during the day usually provides the opportunity to see some pretty weird creatures, but it’s when the sun goes down that we see all the things that go bump in the night.
Night dives are very popular in Lembeh with at least one person going out on an almost daily basis! And there is a very good reason why. If you thought the frogfish and scorpionfish were strange enough during the day, a night dive in Lembeh can really open your eyes!
A backroll entry into the gloom and you’re off, with only small beam of light from your torch guiding your way a night dive can really heighten your senses. With your eyes adjusting to the dark watch out for the monsters that lurk below. Horror films and nightmares are filled with more pleasant creatures!
A stargazer may sound peaceful and romantic but a quick glance at their teeth and unblinking eyes staring out of the sand in wait of their prey and you will change your mind about them immediately. Further under there is the terror that lurks unseen….the Bobbit Worm. Named after Lorena Bobbit (we will let you google that yourself), this is a 2 metre long worm which is made from nothing but fangs and fear.
They hide in the sand and strike quick as a flash, grabbing small fish, octopus or anything else which has the misfortune of swimming above them. Although even with all this darkness there is light.
If you manage to see a Bobbit Worm extend out its sandy lair you will see that their bodies are fantastically colourful, often described as looking metallic. As well as this you may see Bobtail squids, tiny colourful little cephlapods and even more colourful anenomes.
