Blowing bubbles around Bunaken is our favourite thing to do, especially when we see amazing critters on the walls and in the blue. One of the many tiny macro creatures we like to find for our guests is the Bunaken Bubble Coral Shrimp. The bubble coral is easy to spot, then the challenge begins to spot the shrimp.
The Bunaken Bubble coral shrimp is in the genus Vir, and there are a few commonly seen species that are hard to distinguish. It is not unique to Bunaken, it is found from the Red Sea to the Indo Pacific, including Indonesia, Japan, Myanmar, Philippines, Australia and Papua New Guinea, but Bunaken Bubble Coral Shrimp does roll off the tongue quite well! If you can spot these transparent and shy little shrimp then good for you, if not, our dive guides will find them for you and you can try to get a pic.
As well as the Bunaken Bubble Coral Shrimp this week we have had a couple of guests return to Two Fish Divers Bunaken to explore the wonder walls again after 2 years away. Silvia and Thomas from Germany have come with underwater cameras at the ready and a good sense of humour to spend their holiday diving Bunaken with us. Jecky and Colin have been guiding them on our favourite dive sites, spotting pygmy sea-horses, moray-eels, orangutan crabs and of course, bubble coral shrimp. As well as all the bigger fish and rays we get to see in the marine park. Welcome back to old friends!
Also diving this week are the DMT’s that have chosen to spend some of their Divemaster training in North Sulawesi at Two Fish Divers Bunaken or Two Fish Divers Lembeh. Dario from Italy has just completed his PADI training after spending time in Lembongan, Gili Air and Lembeh, getting a huge amount of experience from our very different environments, cultures and instructor teams. Sad to see you go Dario, good luck with your diving career! To replace Dario we have Conny from Switzerland and Bastien from Belgium learning the ropes and taking the baton to be the next hard working, knowledgeable and, like the coral, “bubbly” members of the Two Fish family! Even though they are learning and training, they are still part of the team, helping to make the guests feel happy and welcome in our tropical paradise resort.
With new divers doing PADI Discover Scuba Diving, snorkelers, divemaster trainees and experienced divers all joining our trips and staying at the resort, there is never a dull moment at Two Fish Divers Bunaken! Laughing on the boat by day and sharing stories at the bar by night, it’s been another fun week in our tropical Indonesian paradise.
