My 4th week here in Bunaken doing my PADI Divemaster course and I got a new buddy, Bastien has arrived from Amed as the new Bunaken Divemaster trainee. So cool to share the learning of the skills, diving together and be in the ‘same boat’.
Yesterday we went the first time on our own diving and guiding each other. For me this was a totally new experience but after some weeks of developing my own skills and Bastien being a very relaxed buddy, I felt so safe and could enjoy the dive a lot, even without a guide! It’s amazing how my confidence is growing as a Bunaken Divemaster Trainee. I finished all the study already, the ‘last’ skills are on schedule, and in week 4 I feel more and more as a part of the dive team and it makes it fun to help each other and enjoy every minute we spend together.
During the day we do our study or practice skills, welcome new guests, help with the tanks and descend into the blue water onto the wonder walls around Bunaken. It is amazing, as soon you enter the water, there are tons of different fish, many, many turtles, sharks, crabs, rays, colorful corals; long, deep walls covered with life. On the boat we even see dolphins jumping out of the water. Even when you do snorkeling: it blows your mind! I got the chance to guide 2 guests staying at Two Fish Divers Bunaken resort on a snorkeling trip and was surprised how beautiful and how much stuff you see even at the surface! Snorkeling with Two Fish is safe and fun, for beginners and experienced snorkelers. With a guide, safety ring, equipment rental, boat and crew to pick you up, it is so relaxing.
At the resort I enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner so much, the food is all delicious. Then the time at the bar in the evenings, chatting with the guest and local staff and enjoying the island-life – life as a Bunaken Divemaster Trainee is pretty good!!. The guests this week have been soooo nice and I have made some friends for life. Here at Two Fish Bunaken you really feel like a big family.
But, for me, one of the most amazing things as a Bunaken Divemaster Trainee is to be out on the dive boat, gliding on the ocean’s surface to the dive sites, with the wind in your hair, the big blue around you and the endless horizon. Diving Bunaken and life as a Bunaken Divemaster Trainee is just magic!
