This week in Amed, we swam in a school of Chevron Barracudas during a Deep Adventure Dive that was part of the PADI Advanced Open Water course at the USAT Liberty Shipwreck at around 21 meters depth.
Due to his fierce appearance, the Barracuda is often feared by many divers when they really shouldn’t. Their sudden burst of speed can be surprising, especially when having a Night Dive. They tend to use the diver’s light to surprise their preys, but also surprising the owner of the torch himself.
They can be easily distinguished by a long silver body crossed by black « bars ». Often found in medium sized schools, they can grow up to about 90 cm in length.
All in all, a wonderful week with our many students and Divemaster’s Trainees; and congratulations to Dewi for her Advanced Open Water course, to Trevor for completing his PADI Open Water course, and to Abby for her Wreck and Nitrox Specialties. Different levels but a same shared passion for the ocean and its wonders.
