Santa Claus might have been busy handing out presents this week, but we were equally busy exploring Bunaken’s underwater world with some good ol’ Christmas diving!
Repeat guest Angela even managed to complete her 1000th dive with us, just in time for the holidays. She mentioned it took about 20 years, but that doesn’t make it any less of an achievement. She’s currently muck diving her way towards another 1000 at our sister resort in the beautiful Lembeh Straits.
But seriously, have you ever wondered how we do celebrate Christmas over here? Bunaken’s population is mostly Christian and whilst the diving never stops and the dive guides are more than happy to take you out for Christmas diving, they’re also keen to spend time with their families and attend church services.
Christmas in Bunaken started a few days early with the traditional Christmas Blessing which involved a service, lots of singing and – you guessed it – a staff party with lots of dancing and laughter. Christmas Eve didn’t stop us from night diving and celebrating whilst Christmas Day diving in Bunaken ended a little earlier to give everyone a chance to get into the festive spirit.
Since then, the Christmas crowd has largely moved on to Lembeh (hello from Bunaken, we hope you’re having as much fun as you did here!) and the New Year crowd is with us, many of them taking courses with Dion and Yvonne. Watch this space for an update on how everyone progressed.
