A few weeks ago we already did part one of our favourite dishes. But with 6 dishes we are not nearly finished with our favourite foods in Indonesia because there are so many amazing dishes to be discovered in Indonesia!! So here is part 2 of delicious Indonesia!
Let us know what you think, what is your favourite Indonesian dish? Respond in the comments below!
Kopi Luwak
Kopi Luwak is one of the most expensive types of coffee found on earth! The Asian Palm Civit eats coffee cherries, but they leave the pit – the coffee bean mostly undigested. The bean is then cleaned and roasted like regular coffee beans and the result is a smooth, soft and not bitter cup of coffee that is loved by many!

Small cups of coffee Luwak to try.
Tipat Cantok
This Balinese dish that can be found everywhere, from restaurants to the corner of the street. Tipat cantok is made with rice cake, tofu, mixed vegetables and peanut sauce, and is typically served lukewarm. The sticky rice is traditionally cooked in banana leaves. I love the peanut sauce, it is one of my favourite dishes for lunch!
Nasi Kuning
Nasi Kuning is a popular breakfast dish in Sulawesi and Bali and literally translated means yellow rice. The rice itself is already very good as it is cooked with coconut milk and turmeric. In some areas the yellow rice is served during special occasions because it looks like a tower of gold and symbolises good fortune, prosperity, wealth and dignity. It is served with multiple side dishes such as fried chicken, grated coconut, steamed vegetables and much more!
If you usually don’t like rice we would advise you to try nasi kuning anyway, with the many side dishes and the rich flavour of the rice we are sure that you’ll like it too!!

Nasi kuning with our favourite side dishes
Lawar
Lawar is a typical Balinese dish. It is a stir fried mixed vegetable dish containing green beans, eggs, lime leaves, lots of grated coconut, palm sugar, coconut oil and onion, and sometimes chicken or pork. In Bali it’s often served with babi guling (roast pig) and rice. Lawar is similar to the Javanese urap, which is mostly completely vegetarian. Secretly my personal preferences goes to the Javanese urap, especially the one you can order on our Padang Bai diving day trips – healthy, fresh and very good after a day of diving!
Babi Guling
Babi guling is the favourite of many in Bali and is often eaten during special occasions such as weddings and ceremonies. Babi guling is a whole roast pig with a crispy skin, sometimes the pig is stuffed with vegetables, and the roasting is traditionally done over a charcoal grill. Before roasting the skin is rubbed with salt and spices, spice mixtures depending on the occasion and preference. Babi guling can be eaten with rice and an assortment of side dishes. Babi guling is a specialty in Bali, definitely a must try. Let us know if you liked it!!

When ready to eat babi guling has a gold brown crispy skin and delicious soft meat.
Bakwan Jagung
A side dish that no one can resist fried corn fritter. They are often found as a side dish of nasi campur (rice with side dishes), or as a stand-alone snack. The corn fritters are deep fried corn cookies that are the perfect mix of sweet and savoury. They are found on nearly every Indonesian island! Next time when you order some food check if they have these with the nasi campur, you’ll love it!
