And here it comes.. the end of my training to be a PADI Divemaster in Gili Air!
I just spent 2 lovely weeks at Two Fish Divers in Gili Air, the 3rd destination of my course. After my entrance into the game in Amed on mainland Bali, carrying tanks in Nusa Lembongan (though totally worth it for the manta’s and mola mola’s), I found my peace in Gili Air.
This island is full of good vibes, the food is amazing, and there’s plenty of things to do! It is very small, to give you an idea it takes 2 hours to do the tour of the island (if walking slowly). The sunsets are beautiful and the diving is awesome!
The best thing about diving in the Gili’s is the visibility. It is indeed far better than in Lembongan and Amed! Also, if you’re a turtle lover, this is the place you want to be: they are everywhere! 😀
These 2 weeks of my training to be a Divemaster in Gili Air have been full of change, because the 4 amazing instructors previously working here finished their contracts and so were off on their next adventure, and Kelly (an American instructor) took over for a whole week while waiting for Jenny (the future dive manager) to arrive. It’s been crazy: so many courses (DSD’s, OWC, AOWC) and Kelly really impressed me by her good mood, her smile and her positive mindset even after hard, long days; even when problems arose. It was nice being there during this transition period because I got to make myself useful, I felt like I was really helping! And now there is a new team which is exciting!
The night dives are awesome here in the Gili’s; here’s a picture of an octopus (above). This is right before it inked, which I was really not expecting! Such a nice surprise ??
To conclude these 6 weeks, I was not really sure of what I was getting myself into by signing up for the divemaster internship, but it went way beyond my expectations. I would highly recommend you to do it at Two Fish Divers, where you can move to different locations to do it! I learned so much from so many different people and got to dive in different dive environments. It was truly awesome. (And no, in case you’re wondering, Two Fish didn’t ask me to promote their divemaster course ?). I also always felt well taken care of and received precious feedback for everything I was doing, which allowed me to get better every day!
Warm thanks to everyone from Amed, Nusa Lembongan and Gili Air for this great journey! ?
