I’ve now been on Nusa Lembongan for 11 days and had a mix of fun diving and working through the requirements for the PADI Divemaster program. I’m taking the program over four weeks, mainly as a personal challenge and to take the next step in my diving.
Nusa Lembongan is a small island, with a few other dive centres, some small shops and a handful of hotels and restaurants. The diving here is current dominated, with plenty of drift dives along reefs and walls. Reports from home say South Australia is sweltering with 45 C temperatures and bush fires at the moment. It may be quiet here during low season but I am very much enjoying the even temperatures and humidity! I have another few days here in Lembongan before heading north to Bunaken. It’s great to be able to visit different locations as a part of the course to build experience and explore.
So far I’ve worked my way through all of the theory components of the DM course, as well as guiding some new divers through the Discover Scuba Diving course and lots of skills practice. Today I completed my deep dive, getting down to just shy of 40 metres. Unfortunately it’s a bit late in the season to see mola mola, but there were lots of nudibranchs and an orang utan crab hiding in the soft coral. This afternoon I’m booked in to practice a rescue scenario in the pool, as well as learning how to use the compressor to fill tanks. Still lots to learn!
