Becoming a PADI Divemaster on Bunaken
(by Divemaster trainee ‘Veronika’)
After our PADI Rescue Course we started with our PADI Divemaster on Bunaken! Colin gave us a small presentation on what the Divemaster Training included, what are our responsibilities and our benefits. We got a Divemaster book with 9 chapters to study and a variety of other learning materials from PADI. Our days during our training to become a Divemaster on Bunaken island started at 6.30 am, we took the tanks to the boat, prepared our gear and after that we had some time for breakfast. We helped by preparing the boat, at 8 o’clock and during the day we always had some training or time for practice, diving or time for reading theory. This week we started with studying and we finished chapter 7 in our books and we also took part 1 of our Divemaster exam!!. We passed the exam and we are very happy about it. Unfortunately, I had a cold for three days and I couldn’t dive, so I was studying a lot. We also did a lot of water skills in the pool and we got sunburnt again 🙂
During our last days at Two Fish Bunaken Resort we did a few of our required water skills assessments: swim for 400 metres and tow somebody for 100 metres in full gear. Yikes!
Maia was teaching a PADI Open Water Course and I was able to assist her. It was very interesting experience, to see how to teach other people, who start diving and who are very excited about everything. We did a short session in the pool and then we did 4 dives in the ocean. My job was to be close to the student and be her buddy and assist Maia, when she needed my help. We also did a lot of fun dives and saw the amazing walls of Bunaken, with a lot of turtles, pyramid fish, nudibranchs, and heaps of other fish and critters!
The last days on Bunaken were very calm and quiet but because of the coronavirus affecting flights, a lot of guests have had to delay their bookings or leave earlier than expected. We still had great dives and a really good time watching the sunset every night.
After 19 days of paradise, we went to Manado Airport and got a flight to Bali to get to the next dive centre of Two Fish Divers on Nusa Lembongan.
We are excited about the new episode of our Divemaster and are very happy that we decided to choose Two Fish and combine these amazing locations!
