My road to Divemaster.
I was eager to begin this journey with Two Fish, also very excited at having the option to do my Divemaster Training at two very different dive resorts. My journey starts at Lembeh Straits the muck diving capital of the world. Before I started my DMT I had to complete a Rescue Diver Course and I also personally choose to do 5 other specialty courses to make sure I would be a very competent Divemaster.
My first week at Lembeh consisted of a lot of new and challenging experiences as I did my Rescue Diver Course. The dive resort manager Rachel was my exceptional instructor, while the other resort manager Gregor got to act the victim in the various dive scenarios. I was joined by two of the skilled Lembeh dive guides Jackie and Ryan on the course and we had a great time.
I found Lembeh was not just a great place to discover some unusual critters; Ornate Pipefish, Painted Frogfish and Mimic Octopus to name a few! It is also a great place for specialty courses. The Straits has a WWII Japanese Freighter wreck also known as Mawali Wreck, this can sometimes be hard to find as the mooring line can get dislodged by passing boats. However Gregor was able to show off his free diving skills and locate the wreck for us! While also completing my course on this beautiful dive site I had the added benefit of seeing a White Tip Shark, Giant Frogfish and a Reef Octopus. With somelarge entry points and great visible light, this truly was a great place to do my Wreck Specialty Course.
The marine life in Lembeh changes pace when the sun goes down. The chance to see various species of Octopus and Blue Spotted Stingrays out on the hunt is a genuine treat. I was very lucky to find several cute Bobtail Squids hiding in the muck and also a rather large colourful Forskal Pleurobranch. The fabled Bobbit Worm I was not able to locate so I’ll have to return! Again this was all done while enjoying my Night Specialty Course.
After two busy weeks in Lembeh I am off to Bunaken to finish my DMT. I have achieved a lot, Rescue course done! 5 x Specialty course’s done! Divemaster exam done! Swim tests done! Make sure I have a great time Done and Done! Seeing Flamboyant cuttlefish and Mimic octopus on my last day was the perfect ending to my time here. I had been looking for them since I got here!!
Lembeh I will be back one day. Now on to Bunaken.
