Are you planning your next diving holiday in Indonesia? Are you trying to decide where to go and which region offers the best diving in Indonesia? It’s a difficult decision to make with numerous options to choose from. Diving in Bali, Lombok and Komodo are bound to come up in your Google searches but which region is right for you?
Did you know that domestic flights in Indonesia are cheap and easy to arrange? Why limit yourself to just one location when you can explore more and maximize your time while you are here?
Diving Bali and Nusa Lembongan combined with diving in Komodo couldn’t be simpler. With direct flights offered by Air Asia, Nam Air, Wings Abadi and Garuda Indonesia it’s just 1 hour to 1 hour 20 minutes from Bali to Labuan Bajo (Komodo’s airport). Wings Abadi also offer direct flights from Lombok to Komodo meaning even more combination possibilities.
Why Combine Diving in Bali or Lombok with Diving Komodo?
It’s easy and why not?! Bali to Lombok is either by boat or a short flight and there is direct access to Komodo from Bali and Lombok. By combining regions you’ll see much more of Indonesia, experience completely different cultures in each region and open up a plethora of additional, world-class dive sites to explore.
Diving in Komodo can be accessed by either day trips from dive resorts and dive centres based in Labuan Bajo or by liveaboard. If you are considering a liveaboard trip in Komodo combine it with a resort stay in Bali to experience two distinctive holidays in one!
Komodo is well known for its incredible marine life and abundant coral reefs and pinnacles. You’ll dive with manta rays, sharks, tuna, barracuda, eagle rays, schooling fish and an incredible display of Indonesian marine life.
Komodo’s iconic dive sites include some of the most famous sites in the world such as Manta Alley, Castle Rock, Crystal Bommie, Batu Bolong and the Cauldren. Komodo’s dive sites are bursting with colour, teeming with life and will leave you wanting more dive after dive.
Exploring Komodo On Land
Komodo’s pristine underwater reefs are only rivalled in natural beauty by the land itself. This phenomenal region is like taking a step back in time to the Jurassic period – and many of its terrestrial wildlife species could have come from Jurassic Park itself. By far the most notorious inhabitant of the islands is the Komodo Dragon which is endemic to this region. This prehistoric species of monitor lizard is the heaviest on earth and is known for its carnivorous nature. The toxicity of a Komodo Dragon’s saliva is enough to ensure that once an individual is bitten by this beast they will be ravaged by infection – which usually proves to be fatal. Fortunately, the dragons are carefully monitored by Park Rangers and it’s possible to see them up close – and in safety.
The landscape itself is equally impressive as the fauna that resides here. Other highlights of the region include the Pink Beach which made from grains of eroded red coral, and the three coloured lakes which reflect different colours as the sun passes over their sulphuric, reflective surfaces.
Komodo is a destination which promises adventure and certainly delivers which is why it makes an ideal combination with spiritual Bali or cultural Lombok. These three regions all offer undoubtedly world-class diving, welcoming people and some of the most unique natural wonders on the planet.
