Diving Nusa Penida
The north coast of Nusa Penida is bordered by pristine beaches of beautiful white sand that stretch as far as the eye can see. But beneath these stunning surroundings, there is a whole underwater world full of wonders waiting to be discovered. It’s no wonder we love diving Nusa Penida!
One of our favourite dive sites, when we are diving Nusa Penida, is on the north coast of the island and is named SD (or “Sekolah Dasar” – which means “village school”, as the dive site sits in front of the local primary school). SD is a short 15 minute ride from our Nusa Lembongan Dive Resort. We back roll into the water, and we begin our descent down a gorgeous sloping wall sinking towards the blue. Soon we are surrounded by schools of red tooth triggerfish and thousands of butterflyfish darting in all directions among giant sponges, table corals and sea fans, while sleepy green and hawksbill turtles wake up from their slumber to come and greet us.
As we continue descending to our planned depth of 25-30 metres, the current takes us on a nice drift along the wall so we are able to sit back, relax, and enjoy the beauty of the reef. But we always keep an eye in the blue since encounters with big pelagics are very common ar SD – we may find big tuna or barracuda passing by, and mola-mola sightings are very common here too. The magic of life is in full swing in SD, and you just never know what you may find when you are diving at Nusa Penida.
It has also been a busy week with courses in Lembongan too. Our Divemaster Interns Maria and Jens practiced skills, rescue exercises and knots with our instructors Tom and Rosa. Lindsay from Scotland and Charline from France had their first Discover Scuba Diving experience with our PADI Instructor Intern Rosa, and they loved it! Aranea from Belgium did her Open Water Course with Rosa as well, great job you two. We hope you all will continue your underwater adventures.
