After completing my rescue and EFR courses in the Philippines, and a quick stop for some fun diving in Sipadan, I arrived on Bunaken island this week and am very happy to be back. This is the fifth time for me in Bunaken and it really does feel like coming home.
Have been pretty busy since day 1 of my internship with Sandy having scheduled in everything properly and diligently, as expected! I started playing “awful open water student” with Sandy in order to help James recognize common issues with newly certified divers, it was a lot of fun being on the student side, maybe not as much fun for James who had to deal with us…
Also got the chance to see how it feels to load 15-20 tanks early in the morning, it is pretty tiring but awesome exercise. Typical days are usually skills or specific objective dives in the morning and theory plus knowledge reviews in the afternoon… Until I cut myself on a shell yesterday carrying equipment back from the boat and will now require a couple of dry days. So booties will probably become my close friends once I get back in the water next week.
All in all I’m very happy with my first week here, I really enjoy learning more about diving and improving my skills, of course have to mention Sandy who is just an awesome instructor, she can do pretty much anything under water! So I know I am in good hands.
