Dive Master Trainee Lauren in her last week in Bunaken – “…My time in Bunaken is coming to an end today after spending almost three weeks here. The feeling is bitter-sweet as this will be hard to beat, however I head to Lembeh next for a week of enjoying the world-renowned muck diving, which is exciting!
The days have been flying by, as it has become more routine to be part of the dive center. I spent an afternoon learning about the air compressor and helping to fill tanks, helped with a rescue course which was quite fun both for practicing my own skills as well as having some fun being the “victim”, and have helped with two Discover Scuba courses – all which have been unique experiences. It is nice learning common challenges with newer divers to better be able to assist with the next course.
For my own course as well, I completed my “deep dive” to about 36 m, which is the deepest I have ever gone and was quite spectacular seeing some of the bigger fish. I spent time learning knots for my search and recovery dive, finished my written exams, and completed the challenging “equipment exchange”, after which some relaxation was in order!
I have also been able to do a bit of fun diving this week and have enjoyed playing with my camera. It has been helping with species identification when back at the center looking through the books, trying to remember the details of what we have seen.
Thank you to all the staff, dive guides, and instructors here for making my time here so enjoyable. Hope to be back someday!
Best,
Lauren
