This week in Bunaken… Dugong o’hoy! Luke from Australia got a very nice surprise when he did some snorkelling on the dive site Muka, just in front of the Two Fish Divers resort. While enjoying the reef ledge something made him turn around and just a couple of meters behind him, a few meters down, swam a dugong!
Dugongs are normally quite shy, but this guy swam happily below Luke for a while and then made a tumbling barrel roll and swam off in the opposite direction. Dugongs are rare so Luke was very lucky to be in the right place at the right time and everyone back at the resort was of course very jealous! (And no, there is no dugong hiding in the photo above, unfortunately Luke had no camera with him. It is just a photo of the gorgeous dive site Muka, minus dugong.)
We have had a few courses going this week with among others Jackly from China coming to do his PADI Open Water Course. He enjoyed it so much that he decided to go straight ahead with the PADI Advanced Open Water Course. Neil from the UK decided he wanted some more bottom time and enrolled in the PADI Enriched Air Diver course.
This week we also saw the start of the years’ first PADI IDC (Instructor Development Course). The first day was dedicated to the EFRI (Emergency First Response Instructor course) and from there on it was straight in to the IDC. The candidates have long days ahead with classroom presentations, confined water presentations and learning to teach in open water. It is an intense course, but from the laughters coming from the classroom they seem to enjoy it a lot as well!
I haven’t yet seen one…
