This week our instructor Markus spotted a family of 3 dugongs while diving on the east side of Bunaken island. He was diving solo and without a camera, however, so we wondered about the truth of the story… Until they were spotted again by Daniel, snorkelling in the shallows!
Dugongs are quite rare but can be found in Bunaken, particularly because the mangrove forests that are abundant here are great as nurseries for the young dugongs.
We also had sightings of barracuda and a large black tip reef shark this week while diving at Ron’s Point, a great dive site about 30 minutes from Bunaken. This was a treat for Inge, who had just completed her Advanced Open Water with us, congratulations! Her partner Jens also passed his Open Water course with instructor Yayan, well done!
This week we also had the arrival of Sebastian, who will be joining Hannah on the instructor internship. Best of luck and we look forward to the next month with you on board!
