Views over the ocean from the pool at Kalimaya Dive Resort
Located to the east of well known Lombok Island, Sumbawa was just waiting for us to discover it. East Sumbawa offers a diverse landscape characterised by mountains and rich volcanic river valleys. It may take longer to reach than our other locations, but once you arrive in Sumbawa you’ll be rewarded with pristine beaches, clear waters and world-class scuba diving.
With spectacular coral reefs and a range of dive sites and topographies on offer, East Sumbawa has something for everyone – especially those who like to explore off the beaten track. In parts of Sumbawa, traditional ways of living continue today. Many of the ritual events of old ways are still performed such as water buffalo racing and berempuk – a ritual boxing match. Visit here if you have a thirst for adventure, want to get a truly authentic experience of local culture and enjoy some of the best dive sites in Indonesia!

Discover phenomenal diving in East Sumbawa
Diving in East Sumbawa
We have chosen to team up with Kalimaya Dive Resort because, like us, they have sensational dive sites on their doorstep and deliver high standards of safety and service. At Kalimaya Dive Resort you can enjoy three distinct types of diving all year round: macro and muck diving, current diving, and coral diving.
Kalimaya’s muck diving offers a host of rare and unusual critters to find – even on their House Reef which is home to some of Indonesia’s most iconic macro life.
Laying within close proximity of the Komodo Marine Park, East Sumbawa has some phenomenal current diving and the old adage “no current, no fish” is certainly proven as larger pelagics are drawn in by the plankton-rich waters.
For those who prefer more relaxing dives, the coral reefs around East Sumbawa are bursting with colour and teeming with fish. The reefs are a healthy mix of vibrant hard and soft corals which are among the most pristine in Indonesia.
