Goodbye mola! Today I finished my divemasters with a really good last day! While mapping crystal bay a mola came by to wave goodbye to my instructor Gwen and me. The first half of my Divemaster was in Sanur, Bali mainland, where I started with 4 days of theory and skills practice in the pool with my instructor Reuben. During these days I learned that performing a skill and demonstrating one is a whole different story and how much control in diving I have left to gain.

After diving with Reuben and Jake I started seeing and appreciating diving differently and started spotting smaller things I had never seen before. I discovered a new joy in finding “small stuff” (nudibranch, tiny frogfish and pick-me see horses). The more things I saw, the more I started to realize how much I haven’t seen yet and had left to discover.

One of the great things about the DM course is that you get to do unlimited fun dives. I accompanied Wakary (dive guide) twice on a diving trip with 2 very friendly Danish. The first trip was to Tulamben, the second to Padang Bay, where I saw my first Mola Mola;  Wow wow wow, what a fish is that! It is so huge and graceful, yet incredibly bumbling and mutated. Seeing the Mola made me think how such a creature can exist and it gave me doubts about the correctness of the evolution theory. I also got to dive a few times with Yayan (dive guide) in Lembongan where he started to show me his techniques for guiding and finding more small things.

I then got an ear infection. I ended up taking a week out to visit my family in Ubud and give my ear infection the chance to heal. Then I was back in Lembongan for my last week, ready to finish up all that was left of my course. It was great how flexible Two Fish was with this and they adjusted my timetable as need be.

After my mapping dive with Gwen and the mola, we did a project aware beach cleanup, and I was very happy that people showed up to help out cleaning the beach in the burning sun! Thank you all for your help! Earlier this week I did a discover Scuba dive with our amazing office girl Tanty, it was so much fun to take her out for her first dive. Now I just have to finish my snorkel test which will be the end of my dive master…

I’m looking back on a really good experience in which I’ve learned a lot and discovered a new way of enjoying diving. A really big thanks to the whole Two Fish staff, and I’ll be seeing you again soon!
