Best known for its leading role in the Hollywood films “Finding Nemo” and “Finding Dory,” the False Clown Fish has become a very well known and popular fish. The False Clown fish comes from the Anemone fish family which is a sub family of Damselfish which are usually identified as small oval shape fish.

The Anemone fish family includes 17 species, “Nemo” being one of them. They are known as Anemone fish due to their ability to live among the stinging tentacles of anemones. They typically live in small groups with one dominate female in charge. If anything were to happy to the “woman of the anemone” the largest male will change sex and become the anemone’s new “queen” which is were Hollywood got it a little wrong although it is hard not to love those movies.

The Anemone Fish are very common through out Gili Air, you will find anemones of all types, sizes, and colors housing these adorable little fish. The Anemone fish and the Anemone are the definition of the perfect relationship the little fish is given protection from enemies while cleaning, providing nutrients, and scaring away predators. One could not exist without the other they are highly dependent on one another. It is hard not to smile when you spot these little fish underwater as they scurry around the anemone that is swaying with the movement of the ocean.

The colors of these incredible Anemones are sensational blue, pink, green, purple, and even white. We look forward to spotting these cute little fish every dive. We conclude the week of PADI Women’s Dive with a strong female presence, instructor Kuss finishes a course with two lovely ladies from the UK getting certified as a 30th birthday celebration. Instructor Scuba Sal took student on first time Discover Scuba Dives and Instructor Mermaid Meg certifies another fellow mermaid to go DEEP, completing her Advanced Open Water Course here in Gili Air. Way to go ladies.
