This week in Bunaken… We have seen ghosts this week! Luckily though it has been the kind that makes you squeal with delight, rather than with fear. All of a sudden plenty of gorgeous ornate ghost pipe fish has been popping up around the reefs, hiding especially in feather stars and pretending to be one of the arms of the colourful starfish. Thank you Benita Vincent for the photo!
One of the great things with diving in Bunaken is that you just never know what you might see. Nana and Christian from Denmark came to dive and while Christian was busy doing his PADI Open Water Course Nana refreshed her skills with a Scuba Review and after that went out for a dive. After a nice dive at Tanjung Parigi, she, DMT Carmelo and instructor Ina waited on the surface for the boat to pick them up. A few meters straight out to sea a big, black dorsal fin suddenly popped up. It didn’t move and with it being very pointy rather than curved it was quite obvious that it wasn’t a dolphin… The three divers debated quickly whether to swim towards it or stay close to the reef when the dive boat came and drove close enough to see who the fin belonged to; turned out to be a massive black marlin just chilling on the surface!
Other great sightings this week has been schools of yellowfin tunas and big eye trevallies, big barracudas getting cleaned in the shallows and on the small side a super cute baby frog fish the size of a thumb nail and right next to it an even smaller (and cuter?) baby cuttlefish.
We are happy to welcome yet another PADI Divemaster trainee to Two Fish. Jacqueline from Switzerland visited us 3 years ago to do her Open Water and Advanced Open Water course and has now returned to take the step in to the professional diving world. Keep an eye out for her blog!
