This week we have had some great Gili Island diving as Gili Air has started to become busy busy and busy! The dive shop is almost complete and looking great, a massive space once the rubble has gone, we can really see now what the finished result will look like. The island is getting full of travellers, families and vacationers. The atmosphere has picked up to the feeling of high season.
enjoying Gili Island diving
We have had divers almost all week enjoying the Gili Island diving – one family from Austrailia, brothers from Sweden, a couple from Denmark and now a couple from Singapore. The diving has been lovely, crystal clear water which has surprised me as we have had some nights with storms and plenty of waves.
We have been diving around all three the Gili islands – Gili Air, Gili Trewangan and Gili Meno – and each island has a little something different to offer. Leaf scorpionfish has showed up a fair amount of times around Gili Meno. They are lovely to see especially the eyes, a mirror effect I would call them. Usually we find them either on big rocks or next to them and sometimes hanging out on some hard coral. Leaf scorpionfish tend to go with the buddy system, it is unusual to find them alone. They almost remind me of frogfish, I cant help but spend a good few minutes just staring at them.
Another site that has offered such a range is frogfish point. At the moment it seems that the actual frog fish have taken a holiday but that is ok as we have been seeing ribbon eels, various moray eels, cuttle fish, octopus, stone fish, lionfish, nudibranchs, flatworms, file fish and stingrays scattered around the site. Every few minutes we spot something different. Stefen from Denmark joined us yesterday, he is a DM on holiday with his family, loves photography and so we went to the site. We must of only made it 13 square meters in 1 hour, constantly stopping and taking in the beauty of what the site has. A lovely dive!!
Come and join us on Gili Air for some great Gili Island diving!!
