The Hairy Squat Lobster is one little critter our guests delight in seeing here in Lembeh. This photo was taken by our guests, Victor and Lynn.
The scientific name for this guy is Lauriea Siagiani but they are also known as Anomura Crab, Fairy Lobster, Hairy Pink Lobster, Barrel Sponge Crab and Fairy Crab. They can usually be found inhabiting Barrel Sponges. They grow to approximately 1.5 centimetres, feed on zooplankton and can be found at depths from 2 to 20 metres. We have an abundance of Hairy Squat Lobster here in Lembeh and these Purple Squat Lobsters are definitely the most beautiful!
Along with the Hairy Squat Lobster, our guests have been seeing plenty of other Lembeh locals. Our guests have been spotting Long Armed Octopus, Flamboyant Cuttlefish, Bobtail Squid, Bobbit Worms, Hairy Frogfish, Pygmy Seahorses, Snake Eel and of course, loads of Nudibranchs!! One of our new guides even found a small Seafan with 7 Hippocampus Bargibanti on it!
We have been busy with courses this week in Lembeh! Guest, Lin, completed her PADI Advanced Open Water and her friend, Sonia, completed two PADI Specialty courses, Deep Diver and Peak Performance Buoyancy. Well done! We love teaching courses here, Lembeh Strait is the perfect location for any PADI course – except Drift Diving! Although, there was quite a current on one of their dives – we even saw a Spotted Eagle Ray cruising in the current.
A Divemaster candidate, Lauren, has also joined us for a few days. She is already working hard on her skills and workshops with us, while still getting the chance to dive beautiful Lembeh.
We had some returns guests this week. Catrin and Didi, from Austria, Javier from Spain, Dymphna from The Netherlands and Max from the USA came back for a visit.
We also had guests from France, Germany, Canada, Switzerland, Singapore and China.
Happy Bubbles!!
Hopefully we are as lucky in November… 🙂
