A hammerhead shark encounter on your first ever dive? We did not think it was possible, though it actually happened to our ridiculously lucky open water students Patrick and Gabs from the USA. As the boat arrived at the first dive site our instructor Sam allowed all experienced divers to enter the water first. Little did he know that he was setting himself and his new open water students, accompanied by our DMT Alexandra, up for a GIANT surprise, a hammerhead shark encounter!
After completing the skills in the shallows on the slope, the dive group descended to 10M and as they were swimming along the wall, Sam noticed a big shark approaching them from the front, as it got closer, he realized it was a hammerhead shark and nearly lost his mind. It was his first ever encounter with a hammerhead shark so after 4000 and some more dives he got lucky. Whereas Patrick and Gabs, were completely unaware of the fact that what they had just witnessed was something extraordinary.
This week we have had the privilege of teaching a few additional courses and signed Til off as a PADI open water diver and Dirk completed his PADI advanced open water diver course. Our DMT Alexandra knocked out the EANx course in one afternoon and she continues to make serious progress on her divemaster course.
As we are currently running at full occupancy and the atmosphere at the resort is just fabulous. We have had to say good bye to Holger, who has taken off for our resort on Lembeh and in return have welcomed Rebecca, Robert, Karen and Tammie who joined us from Lembeh. Venus walked in the other day and was interested in staying with us on Bunaken and she too will be off to Lembeh in a couple of days.
All in all, another fabulous week on Bunaken! Life is a beach, but someone’s gotta do it…
I hope that they will stay two weeks longer, so we can see them too.
