Early morning today six divers went on an exploratory dive to Batu Kapal with the hope to see hammerhead sharks and barracudas off Nain island!
About an hours boat journey north of Bunaken. We’d heard a rumor that Hammerhead sharks had been spotted there a while ago so there was a sense of excitement as we boarded our boat just after sunrise. Batu Kapal is a pinnacle which goes quite deep so is only suitable for advanced divers. It rewarded us with a sighting of two hammerheads and then on the way back we dived at Barracuda point on a nearby island. The second dive was possible even better with great sightings of eagle ways, black tip reef sharks and large quantities of schooling barracuda and jackfish. Our news has caused such a stir back on Bunaken that we’re planning another trip there the day after tomorrow !!!
