This week in Lembeh we had the pleasure of welcoming back Dan from Germany. It had not been long since Dan departed Two Fish Lembeh – but he had some unfinished business! He was still yet to see the infamous Hairy Frogfish! Our guests had already been treated to an array of exciting critters this week including Flamboyant Cuttlefish, Ambon Scorpionfish and Coconut Octopus to name a few. But Dan was determined to see these unusual creatures.
You know when you wait an hour for a bus and then two come at once? Well apparently when you are waiting for a hairy frogfish you don’t just see one you see THREE in one dive! Dan could not wait to tell us when he arrived back from the boat, and he was very grateful to the fantastic eyes of his dive guide Rein for finding three of these notoriously well-hidden fish.
Frogfish are rarely seen moving, when they do it is a slow awkward crawl across the sea bed. However, in attack they aren’t so clumsy looking. These ambush predators wait until the right moment and strike at speeds of up to 6 milliseconds!
It was a great week for all of our guests in Lembeh who were blown away by the crazy critters here, we cannot wait to see all of your photos!
