This week in Bunaken… On several occassions this week divers were reminded that it’s sometimes hard to see the forrest for all the trees or in DMT Angela’s case; the harlequin shrimps for all the star fish! (Photo: Sharon Odam, UK)
Angela was practicing guiding with Ina and had been told during previous dives that she needs to point out more things in order to make the dive more interesting. She listened to the advise and found heaps of things to point out. Among those things a nice little star fish on top a ledge. Because of this Ina took another look at said star fish that might not have caught her attention otherwise and was surprised (and very happy) to see a rare harlequin shrimp sitting on top of it! Angela had completely missed it and had to be called back to have a look at her great find.
Another example was earlier in the week when Giacomo from Switzerland enjoyed watching a big green turtle resting under a ledge during a dive on Sachiko. He took a short video of it and it wasn’t until he was watching the video after the dive that he saw that right next to the turtle was small white tip reef shark hanging out! Remember to have a good look around, who knows what might be hiding in plain sight!
The crazy currents from last week has calmed down, but the water is still full of action. During a dive on Fukui a school of eight large giant trevallies was buzzing back and forth over the reef. Understandably a lot of the smaller fish were quick to hide in the reef as soon as the big lads were in sight.
There has been a few courses during the week as well, everything from PADI Open Water to specialty courses such as PADI Enriched Air diver and PADI Search and Recovery. Thano, our new DMT, has done his PADI Rescue course together with three of the junior dive guides and they have been having way too much fun drowning, panicking and resuscitating each other. Serious fun!
Last, but of course not least a huge congratulation to our DMT Angela for finishing her PADI Divemaster course!!! Angela has done her course in the Two Fish resorts in Lembongan, Lembeh and Bunaken, starting as an Advanced diver with only 9 dives and leaving us as a great Divemaster with close to 100 dives. Well done!!
