We’ve had a SHARKY kind of week this week on Bunaken with a sighting of a hammerhead shark by our guide Tian. Unfortunately, our guest Jeff, who joined us after visiting Lembeh, was unable to capture the shark with his camera as he swam off in the distance, and divers will understand that without photographic evidence there is always a chance it did not happen. Having said that, I have personally interrogated Tian after the sighting and the excitement on his face was real, so we are going to count it and share with you his sighting of a hammerhead shark!
Our repeat guest and DMT Dom and his wife Catherine from Switzerland were lucky to spot three sharks on their dive yesterday morning on Sachiko! This dive site is known to have some bigger fish when you get lucky, though during our low season the site isn’t always dive-able. Especially Catherine was very excited as she was the one who spotted the sharks, she managed to get Dom’s attention and show him the black tip and white tip reef sharks.
Our instructors have been busy teaching our two DMTs Dom and Thibaud. They have completed their swim tests and been through several skill circuits. A skill circuit, is essentially a run through all the 24(!!) open water diver skills, as they are to master these skills as certified divemasters. They have also had the opportunity to assist our instructor Ilse on an open water diver course, as we’ve had Ditte from Denmark take the course. She did an outstanding job and has moved on to continue her journey of 4 months through Indonesia.
Also in the house this week: Eva and her husband Anders from Sweden. They have been hanging out and relaxing at the resort, enjoying the swimming pool and hammocks, a (long) walk around the island and snorkeling on the beautiful reefs around our island.
