Shore Diving Lembeh House Reef
Our featured dive site for this week’s blog…..is our very own Two Fish Lembeh Resort house reef which we have been diving much more frequently over the last few weeks. We are also in lockdown here in Lembeh, however, some guests chose to stay here long-term rather than return to coronavirus hotspots in Europe and so we are able to quarantine quite effectively at our isolated island resort together. We are even getting some dives in; after checking that our local hyperbaric facilities are able to operate as normal of course.
We’ve always enjoyed diving on our house reef but with fewer boat dives going out we’ve been out almost daily and finding some really impressive stuff within a stone’s throw of the bar! We are extremely fortunate in Lembeh to have a house reef right in front of the resort than can be dived with a shore entry at any time of day. This is particularly useful for student divers with perfect shallow sandy areas for skills practice before going diving. Jan and Veronika, our divemaster candidates quarantining here, are making good use of this dive site to complete a lot of their required assessments!
We’ve been exploring at different times of the day and night and this week alone we were very excited to find a Psychedelic Batwing Slug at only 12m deep! Manager Dan decided he was feeling quite ‘shrimpy’ this week and didn’t disappoint by finding Spiny Tiger Shrimp, Donald Duck Shrimp and Mushroom Coral Shrimp all on the next dive! There have been lots of beautiful nudibranchs around, including four different Hypselodoris species and lots of Goniobranchus kunei. To finish up our last night dive we even spent 10 minutes with a large Starry Night Octopus that we spotted in the shallows as we were returning to shore!
Our next plan is to dive it at dawn and see if we find anything different in the early hours. We are extremely fortunate to be locked down here of all places. But we are very much looking forward to welcoming new guests back to Lembeh so we can introduce you to the critters that are, literally, on our doorstep!
