Dive Lombok Overview
Lombok is located in the Nusa Tenggara region of Indonesia – a region which is renowned for its world class dive sites, phenomenal scenery and incredible nature. From the top of the volcanic peaks down to the coral reefs this is an area, above and below water,that just demands to be explored. The more experienced diver should try diving Belongas Bay or the Secret Gili’s in South Lombok. The Gili Islands off the north of Lombok offer easy dives and stunning beaches and the Gili Islands in the South (yes, there are 2 sets of Gili’s!) offer some of the most diverse and pristine dive sites in Indonesia.

Gili Air: Indonesian Tropical Island Getaway
Are palm-fringed white sand beaches your idea of paradise? Are you making plans for your next dive trip? Come visit us on Gili Air which is part of the “Coral Triangle” and well known for its excellent diving, pristine coral reefs and tropical laid back island vibe.
The three Gili islands (Gili Air, Gili Meno and Gili Trawangan) offer more than 20 different dive sites, all in close proximity and with their own special attractions. Head to Shark and Manta Point to spot reef sharks and groups of Bumphead Parrotfishes on Coral Fan Garden. AND then there are the turtles… Sea turtles are in such an abundance around the Gili Islands they’ve almost become a permanent fixture of the seascape. Collectively there are more than you’ve seen anywhere else; under corals, on top of corals, swimming, eating, and sleeping! You’ll see numerous turtles on almost every dive and they aren’t shy when it comes to close encounters.

On land, Gili Air is the perfect place to drift away in a hammock, take a stroll along the beach, explore the island, enjoy a cocktail at sunset and get away from it all. This is a paradise island for those who want to enjoy awesome dive sites and kick back and relax.

Belongas Bay: Seasonal hammerheads and mobulas
Are you an experienced diver that is looking for drifts, BIG fish encounters including hammerheads, mobula rays, white tip reef sharks, napoleon wrasse, barracudas, trevally and more? Belongas Bay must be on your bucket list. Stunning seamounts, pinnacles, slopes, drop-offs and even an underwater cave system that takes you from one side of the famous “Cathedral” dive site to the other.
The marine life in Belongas is second to none and can range from serious pelagics (mantas, whale sharks, mola’s, tunas, barracudas, blue marlin, eagle ray’s) through to ornate critters (nudibranch, harlequin shrimps, ghost pipefish, frogfish, hairy octopus and much much more).

Here’s what a review from a recent expedition around Belongas, if this doesn’t get your adrenaline pumping and have you reaching for your fins we are not sure what will!
“We were met with an unreal amount of soft and hard coral and a buzzing of fish in every direction, white tip reef sharks were on every side of us and then to have 7 eagle rays glide over the top of us! As we swam down the east side of the magnet to the south we were meet with a wall of current between us and the new pinnacle. We had 40+ meter visibility so we could see the huge rocks rising out of the depths. As we turned back and starting our accent we were met with more white tips and trevallies who decided they needed a closer look at these strange divers”.
South Lombok: Diversity in The Secret Gili’s
Discover the Secret Gili’s of Sekotong and experience marine biodiversity at its best (not to be confused with the well-known Gili Island’s in the north mentioned above). For critter lovers, you won’t be disappointed by the array of nudibranch, including some endemic species, as well as blue ring octopus, pygmy seahorses and frogfish. If you prefer larger marine life, look under the table corals for white tip reef sharks and out to the blue for passing tuna and barracuda.

The coral reefs around Sekotong, with the “Secret Gilis” in the Southwest, are completely unspoiled and offer some of the most pristine dive sites in Indonesia. Lombok’s west coast is also home to some phenomenal muck diving – this relatively unknown area really does offer something for all divers and we think it’s only a matter of time before the “secret” is out and it becomes Indonesia’s next “must visit” diving destination!
