This week in Lembongan. Calm seas have allowed us to visit the Mantas quite frequently and our divers enjoyed a lot of time with this beautiful creatures. Some of them were lucky enough to even see Mantas and Molas on the same day and to top that off they spotted dolphins on the surface just a few meters from our boat. So we had a lot of happy faces from our guests at lunch.
Many of our guests wanted to extend their no-stop times on dives this week. The PADI specialty for this is of course the Nitrox course. Nitrox or Enriched Air is nothing else than air with a higher level of Oxygen. There are different blends of Nitrox, here in Lembongan we usually have a blend with 32% Oxygen. Due to the lower Nitrogen content of the breathing gas the body will take on less Nitrogen and subsequently this extends the time a diver can stay at a certain depth. Due to the higher partial pressure of the Oxygen Enriched Air has a shallower maximum depth than Air. The Nitrox course only takes about one afternoon where there is a video to watch, a few questions to go through and then a final exam. We also include two dives on Nitrox in the course. So that our students can experience the difference between diving on air and on Nitrox first hand.
Some of our more experienced guests went to dive Blue Corner and they were very lucky to see an oceanic white tip shark. This is a rare sight in our waters. What we see most commonly are small reef sharks, like bamboo sharks, wobbegong or white tip reef sharks. We also spotted a big Barracuda at the Mangroves that was just hanging out, enjoying the clear waters. Of course we have many smaller and colorful reef fish to show off and a lot of small creatures that our guides spot for the divers.
