This week in Lembongan… The sea has been clam, the sky has been clear while diving and we have had lots of morays poking their heads out to say hi.

Moray eels have somewhat of a mean look about them and some divers consider them not very nice sea creatures. But the truth of the matter is, when the moray is poking it’s head out of the hole showing off its sharp teeth, all it is doing is breathing. While it is opening and closing its mouth and shaking its head side to side, it is actual flushing water over its gills so that it can breathe. But in saying that, the moray does have a crazy set of teeth, two sets in fact. Because moray eels lack the jaw muscles to pull food down their throats, morays have a 2nd jaw inside their throat that moves to take food from the first jaw and to bring it down to the stomach.

The currents have been calm this week so that our dive guides have had the chance to really take a good look around the reef to find the fun little creatures to show their guests. We have had Elena and Micheal diving with us all this week who are good friends of one our old divemaster trainees. They have had some great dives with the manta rays and they have been seeing a lot of mantis shrimps.

Besides the moray eels our dive guides have been able to spot; manta rays, mantis shrimps, boxer crabs, orangutan crabs, lots of different nudibranchs, different shrimps cleaning the reef fish, napoleon wrasse and sharks
