In Belongas, South Lombok this week for the second time this year we have encountered Manta Rays..yes Manta Rays. These particular fish were not just any mantas, but rather majestic Oceanic Mantas! It is not often that we come across them, but an extra special treat, like the Mola Mola ( Sunfish), Dolphins, Whale Shark and Dugong.
The Manta Ray was around 10 meters away on the dive site “The Magnet”. Temperature was 26˚C and we were accompanied by our dear friends Will and Mel Instructors from Pulau Weh. The manta ray was spotted pretty much as soon as we descended and stayed with us for 3 minutes before it took off. A nice size of 4 meters.
Among the Oceanic Manta we also came across A blue Marlin 2 meters long, unfortunately the only one that spotted it was our Instructor Jake…but again this is the first all season. A truly incredible experience he says.
We have also come across Barracudas, White Tip Reef Sharks, Sea Cobras, Red Tooth Trigger Fish, Grey Reef Shark, Nudiebranchs, Eagle Rays and a tiny tiny Painted Frogfish found at the dive site “the Cathedral”.
Conditions have been extremely calm this week and visibility 15-20 meters. Lets hope that this keeps up for the rest of our trips this year!
