Hi, I’m Jaimie and this week I started my PADI Divemaster internship in Lembeh, world famous for its muck diving. For those who haven’t be muck diving before, like me, it’s like diving the unknown. Will it be murky? Will I be able to see anything? Will it be Fun?
The answer to all those questions is YES! It’s an amazing world down there, with the ugliest creatures like Giant Frogfish, Scorpionfish, and Devilfish, who look like they’re from a different planet. On the same dive, you’ll see the most beautiful Nudibranchs you’ve ever seen, the coolest Cuttlefish around, the cutest Pygmy Seahorse and the tiniest Shrimp possible. And this all set in a scene that resembles the moon. Sounds pretty good hey?
Combine all this with a PADI Deep Dive Specialty course (where I spotted a pink juvenile Frogfish!), a PADI Search & Recovery Specialty course (which involved mostly sand, lost dive gear and lift bags) and a PADI Wreck Dive Specialty course (where we came across schools of Batfish ánd a huge cargo wreck waiting to be explored), and you’ll understand why I had the time of my life here!
Mark was the best. He is a very knowledgeable and experienced diver, and you can tell he loves teaching and telling stories. I’ve spent hours with him in the cafe, on the boat, and at the dinner table discussing dive related subjects. The one place where we couldn’t talk was, of course, underwater. But he found a solution: an erasable slate.
Mark was not only my Instructor but a mentor as well. I’m very pleased he and Debs (the other manager/Instructor) took me under their wings because they’re amazing people. Thanx guys!
If you’re having doubts about diving Lembeh? Don’t! Dive the unknown! You’re gonna love it!
