When I decided to do my Divemaster training (DMT) with Two Fish Divers I chose to add 5 PADI Specialty courses to also become a Master Scuba Diver (because why not?).
Based on my choice of specialties, taking into account my schedule as well as Two Fish Divers’ philosophy of splitting the training time between two or more locations in Indonesia, my program was set as follows: I would spend my first two weeks in Nusa Lembongan (where I would complete four PADI Specialty courses and ease into the Divemaster Trainee life), then two weeks in Gili Air (where I would officially start the Divemaster Course), and finally three weeks in Amed (where I would complete my last PADI Specialty with the PADI Wreck Diver course and finish the Divemaster Course).
Divemaster Training in Nusa Lembongan
The two weeks I spent Divemaster Training in Nusa Lembongan have been packed with exciting (and at times, challenging) dives, a fair amount of studying, a lot of practice and quality time with incredibly interesting people.
I saw mola-molas (the first time during my 100th dive so that I can never forget!), thresher sharks (the first one during one of my PADI Deep Diver course’s dive with instructor Valerii – in the blue, with no other divers around), reef manta rays (about which I have been taught during the PADI Manta Ray Diver Distinctive Specialty course with instructor Baron), bamboo sharks, turtles and countless of other beautiful sea creatures.
In parallel with the PADI Specialty courses I started my Divemaster training in Nusa Lembongan life by being fully integrated to the team (divers and non-divers alike) and generally learning about all the different aspects of the diving operations. In order to be able to focus on the practical part of the DMT as much as possible once in Gili Air, I completed several chapters’ knowledge reviews of the Divemaster Manual with instructor Tom (with whom I completed also the PADI Enriched Air Diver Specialty) and learned a lot by spending time helping, talking to and observing the instructors and dive guides.
As Nusa Lembongan attracts a lot of (very) experienced divers I had the privilege of spending time with the fantastic guests, underwater as well as on land at the Two Fish Divers Lembongan Resort and I learned a lot from their experiences of diving around the world. During my Divemaster training in Lembongan I loved listening to all the stories everyone had to share and I added dozens of items to what seems to be a never ending bucket list of dive sites to visit in the future!
After two weeks, 24 dives and a missed encounter (fortunately or unfortunately, I’m still on the fence…) with a great white shark (I was busy observing a thresher shark when other divers came very close to one) I left Nusa Lembongan for Gili Air, sad to leave all the new friends I have made but excited for the new ones I am about to meet and the new dive sites I will experience!
