This week in Tec … PADI Tec 50 for diving instructors – if you are a recreational diving instructor and have some time off, would you go off and do the PADI Tec 50 is the course for you? This week diving instructor Yvonne had some time off from her job in Bali and came up to Bunaken for the PADI Tec 50 course. We asked her to right a blog for us about her experience and this is her tale.
What does a (recreational) diving instructor do on her holidays? Diving, of course! Only a little deeper, for a change.
Currently based in the north east of Bali, I came to Bunaken for a week to complete my PADI Tec 50 qualification. As it had been a while since I’d played with twinsets and stages, instructor Dom suggested a Tec Refresher, covering the skills of the Tec 45 course which turned out to be the perfect start to a week’s tec diving.
Brushing up on skills whilst peeking down deep walls and watching a turtle drift by was great fun and set the tone for the next few days of taking these skills to another level and another depth (though there might have been times when Dom had a little too much fun laughing at me!). Whilst the mornings were spent in the water, the afternoons were taken up by delving deeper into decompression theory and generally picking Dom’s brain.
Three days and a few amazing deep dives later – these walls are out of this world!-, we’re now sitting in the bar celebrating my brand-new Tec 50 qualification! And as if that wasn’t enough to do within a week, Dom let me try Sidemount in the pool and tomorrow we’re off to start the TDI Sidemount course. Can’t wait!
Thanks Yvonne, thanks for doing the PADI Tec 50 course with us, and good luck with your Sidemount course!!
