This week on Lotte´s Advanced Open Water Course we did a night shore dive just off our home reef. Our instructor Kay loves night dives especially because of the sightings of the cutest creature, the pygmy cuttlefish.

So just when the sun was setting, our student Lotte, Divemaster Trainee Ian and instructor Kay were heading out for their dive. They found straight away cool creatures like pipefish, awesome nudibranches, sidegill slugs, sapsucking slug, decorator crabs, ribbon eel, brittle stars, squids but the only critter which was missing and they tried to find so desperately even after 40 minutes into the dive, was the pygmy cuttlefish.

But of course, just when they were about to start their safety stop, there it was, the cute little cuttlefish who was trying to hide in some seagrass leaves. Satisfied and happy with the last adventure dive of the course, they were ascending and enjoyed the clear star sky, once breaking the surface.

Night dives are just so magnificent because it is even more peaceful than during the day. A totally different aquatic life is active and the bioluminescent plancton is always great to see!
