Pygmy Seahorses spotted in Gili Air! It might be one of the hardest creatures to spot in the ocean but possibly the cutest . They are as rare as they are tiny so it was so exciting to see them on our dive. The pygmy seahorse is smaller than a dime. They spend their entire life attached to the same Gorgonian coral which could be as long as 100 years.
Being a diver I am sure that you may have a “creature bucket-list” aka things that you want to witness under the sea in their natural habitat. These tiny little creatures were definitely high on my bucket-list. We spotted not one but SEVEN of these incredible creatures at Shark point at 24 meters depth. Then we spent the majority of our dive staring at their tiny cute little faces in amazement. Our guides who have done countless dives in the Gili’s have the most incredible ability to spot macro-life. They impress me everyday with their exquisite eye sight and yesterday was no different when they spotted the Pygmy Seahorses. What a gift from the ocean and they are waiting for you in Gili Air.
We were joined on the boat this week by Baron who was planning on snorkeling here in the Gili’s but then could not resist going deeper. Max also peeled away from his family vacation to join us for a few Fun Dives and spot his first ever pygmy seahorse.
Selamat Detang Bam Bang to our front office staff this week. Come visit us in our office and welcome him to the Gili Air family. He spends this morning completing a Discover Scuba Diving program, making bubbles in the pool with Instructor Scuba Sal then this afternoon the buddy team will head to the ocean. Stay tuned to Dive Zone powered by Two Fish website for daily updates. Happy Bubbles.
