This week in Lembongan… Our divers have been spotting lots of razorfish along the north coast of Penida. Not seen very often in the area and almost never when there is strong current along the north coast, but this week, the conditions have been good and our divers have been able to spot groups of these funky looking creatures pecking at the reef, looking for food.

Razorfish, also called shrimpfish are nearly transparent and flattened from side to side with long snouts and sharp-edged bellies. A thin, dark stripe runs along their bodies. These stripes and their shrimp-like appearance are the source of their name. They swim in a synchronized manner with their heads pointing downwards. Adult shrimpfish are up to 20 cm long, including their snouts.

A big congratulation has to go out to Kat this week for completing here Divemaster course! Kat had a great time here with us in Lembongan and has developed a lot over the 6 weeks that she was here. Razorfish have not been the only thing our guides have been spotting on the dive. Over the last 2 days, the sighting of molas has increased with dive centres on the island spotting them all over. Yesterday, at Crystal Bay, all our divers that were there, had the chance to see two of these strange creatures cleaning together in the deep. Kat, who was on her last fun dive before leaving, and ex DMT Irene, who was back for a few dives, were so happy to have the chance to see the mola!
