“Diver! Diver! Are you okay?” shouts the rescue diver in training. The past week in Bunaken we have had the chance to make everyone in the diving community a little bit safer by certifying a couple of rescue divers. While it is a difficult and tiring course, everyone who takes the time to learn this set of essential skills comes out of it feeling a more confident and competent diver.
We congratulate Tamara and Sula on this mighty achievement! They have done an outstanding job in rescuing their victims that were at least twice the size of these girls. Figuring out which techniques worked best for their personal size and accepting that some are simply impossible. It’s great to know where you excel and where your limitations lay as a rescue diver, as this will make a real rescue much more efficient and hopefully creates a positive outcome.
Our fun diving guests have had an equally good week, with lots of sightings of white tip and black tip reef sharks, numerous giant trevally, barracudas and of course countless turtles! It’s definitely been a spectacular week for divers and snorkelers alike. One guest, from Japan, even told us he saw 5 sea cows. Of course, this blew our mind and we were in awe by his story. Once our dive master, Rosa (who speaks Japanese fluently) spoke to him in Japanese, she found out he was talking about turtles instead!
Vincent from Holland has just completed his open water and advanced open water diver course with Ilse. Whilst Tom and Helen are preparing themselves to teach Kasper, Susanne, Lien en Anthony their open water diver courses. All in all another productive week here for our instructors!
SO, if you want to come and count turtles with us or upgrade your diving skills to rescue diver level, book and contact us now for more information! You know we are already looking forward to welcoming you here on Bunaken!
