This week we’ve been very lucky to see beautiful Manta rays and Mola Ramseyi but also plenty of different species of fish. In the North of Nusa Penida we dive daily on one of the most spectacular and healthy coral reef that I have ever seen. Yesterday at the dive site SD we spotted a Ribbon eel and it become one of the highlights of our dive.

Commonly known as the ribbon eel, or blue ribbon eel, these colorful animals are actually a species of moray eel. Depending on the stage of the ribbon eel’s life it may appear black, blue and or yellow. They grow to one meter or 3.3 feet in length and can live up to 20 years in the wild.

Ribbon eels are known to stay in the same hole for months or even years. Ribbon eels are usually seen with only their heads protruding from holes in reefs, amongst coral rubble on coastal reef slopes or in sand and mud of lagoons.
What a funny little creature!
